Heading into the 2024 NFL offseason, the New York Giants had quite a few needs to address on their roster. The one that has been garnering the most attention is the quarterback, as the team has to figure out what to do with Daniel Jones.
After signing a four-year, $160 million deal last offseason, Jones had the worst season of his professional career in 2023. With teams adjusting to what he and the Giants found success doing in 2022, the results on the field plummeted.
New York has to figure things out under center, otherwise people will be losing their jobs at the end of the season. Another position that the Giants need to address is edge rusher. Last season, the team got no production from the position group outside of Kayvon Thibodeaux, who broke out for 11.5 sacks in his sophomore season.

Finding a bookend for him is one of the items on the team’s to-do list this offseason. Relying on Azeez Ojulari and Boogie Basham again will not cut it. Luckily for the Giants, several pass rushers could be hitting the market this offseason.
One of those players is Brian Burns of the Carolina Panthers. Carolina cut off extension talks with Burns a few weeks ago, opting to place the franchise tag on their star pass rusher. That could conceivably keep him in Carolina for at least the 2024 season, especially since they have rejected trade offers for him previously.
However, their stance on the matter seems to have changed. The Panthers are reportedly open to trading Burns, and the Giants have been suggested as a potential landing spot. New York’s general manager, Joe Schoen, has a good relationship with new Panthers general manager Dan Morgan, which cannot rule out a trade between the two in the opinion of Dan Duggan of The Athletic.

With their defensive scheme changing in 2024, as Wink Martindale is no longer the coordinator, the Giants’ personnel needs to undergo some adjustments. Bringing in Burns would certainly fit in the scheme Shane Bowen will be running.
Adding Burns as a bookend to Thibodeaux would give the Giants one of the best young pass-rushing duos in the NFL. For years, their defense was built around star pass rushers and it is something they need to get back to sooner rather than later.
