The Buffalo Bills probably aren’t going to trade wide receiver Stefon Diggs, but if they do, the New York Giants make a whole lot of sense as a potential destination.
Nick Faria of Pro Football Network lists the Giants as one of the top possible landing spots for Diggs, noting their obvious need for a top-flight wide out.
New York has some young talent at the position in the form of Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt, but neither of those two players are proven.
The Giants have not had a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver since Odell Beckham Jr., who they traded after the 2018 campaign.
Diggs is coming off of a 2023 season in which he hauled in 107 receptions for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns en route to his fourth straight trip to the Pro Bowl.
While those numbers look good on the surface, a deeper dive reveals that Diggs had an odd year, to say the least.
The 30-year-old rattled off five 100-yard performances over his first six games, but then did not record a single 100-yard outing for the rest of the season.
Bills head coach Sean McDermott insisted that Diggs was not injured and that Buffalo’s offense was just taking what defenses gave it.
The Bills initially acquired Diggs in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings back in March 2020, and in his debut season in Buffalo, Diggs had the best year of his career, leading the NFL in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) to go along with eight scores. Not only did he make his first Pro Bowl appearance, but he also earned a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Stefon Diggs was terrific in 2021 and 2022, as well, but his relative disappearance down the stretch of 2023 was one of the more puzzling stories of the NFL this past year.
We’ll see if the Giants decide to make a play for him.
