The New York Giants amassed a grand total of 34 sacks this past season, so clearly, they need some assistance with their pass rush.
Luckily for the Giants, they will have an impressive amount of cap room following the recent salary cap spike, giving them enough financial resources to legitimately address their defense.
Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus sees Buffalo Bills edge rusher Leonard Floyd as a perfect target for New York, noting that he would make for a great pass-rushing partner for Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Floyd is coming off of an impressive 2023 campaign in which he played every game and racked up 32 tackles, 10.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
Due to financial constraints, the Bills will probably not be able to re-sign Floyd, opening the door for sack-hungry teams like the Giants to steal him away.
Floyd, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was originally selected by the Chicago Bears with the ninth overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed a solid rookie campaign, registering 33 tackles and seven sacks, but he was an overall disappointment for the Bears, never logging five sacks again in any of his final three seasons with the club.
The 31-year-old then moved on to the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, which was where he finally came into his own.
Floyd had a breakout campaign in his debut season with the Rams, recording 55 tackles, 10.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a couple of fumble recoveries. He proceeded to post 70 tackles and 9.5 sacks the following year, and in his last season in Los Angeles in 2022, Floyd tallied 59 tackles and nine sacks.
While he has never made a Pro Bowl, Floyd has been one of the league’s most consistent pass rushers over the last several years and would provide a major lift to a Giants defense that sorely needs it.
