Giants Named Top Potential Destination For Electrifying Young RB

D'Andre Swift

The New York Giants may find themselves in need of a new running back this offseason, and Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus sees a potential target for the club.

Philadelphia Eagles halfback D’Andre Swift.

Swift is slated to hit free agency next month and is coming off of a breakout 2023 campaign in which he racked up 1,049 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry. He also caught 39 passes for 214 yards and a score and earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl for his efforts.

The Giants have been employing Saquon Barkley in their backfield since 2018, but Barkley will also be a free agent in the coming weeks and may very well have played his last down in New York.

Swift is two years younger than Barkley and does not have nearly as much mileage. He also does not have Barkley’s checkered injury history, which is a significant factor.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was originally selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Swift spent three seasons with the Lions and displayed terrific versatility, logging 46, 62 and 48 catches, respectively, in those three years.

His best season came in 2021, when he registered 617 yards and five scores as a rusher while hauling in those 62 receptions for 452 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Detroit then traded Swift to the Eagles last April.

Now, it should be noted that Swift was running behind a terrific offensive in Philadelphia, something the Giants do not possess. So, just because Swift broke out this year does not necessarily mean he will post the same type of production in New York.

Regardless, the Giants certainly need an offensive boost, and Swift could provide that for them.
