Aaron Rodgers is set to begin a new chapter of his NFL career with the New York Jets. After years of terrorizing opposing defenses with the Green Bay Packers, it will be a strange sight to see him in the Big Apple. With that, however, comes a lot of excitement throughout the league with major changes being made.
While the Jets have become known as a laughing stock around the league, they are now viewed as a potential Super Bowl contender in the AFC. Outside of Rodgers, they made some big moves to improve the roster around their new franchise quarterback.
All eyes will be on the Jets’ record and how Rodgers improves the team. But, there is a bit of personal history that Rodgers will be looking to make as well.
According to ESPN, Rodgers is just 25 passing touchdowns away from reaching 500 for his career. He would join Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Brett Favre as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to reach that milestone.
That number alone shows just how special Rodgers’ career has been to this point. Seeing him join the Jets to continue chasing NFL history makes his storyline even more intriguing. Very few players actually end up ending their career with the team that drafted them, but Rodgers was one that seemed to be a lock to do just that.
In New York, Rodgers will have some intriguing weapons to work with. Young wide receiver Garrett Wilson will be his No. 1 option, but the Jets also signed former Packers’ wideout Allen Lazard in free agency as well. They also have Rodgers’ close friend Randall Cobb, who they signed in free agency, along with Corey Davis and Mecole Hardman Jr.
At 39 years of age, Aaron Rodgers is still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The Jets and their fans are going to be in love with their quarterback production for the first time in years.
Expect to see the Jets live up to the hype as a serious threat in the AFC with Rodgers leading the way. The time has come for the franchise to get excited and to finally make a push deep into the playoffs.
