The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested in signing veteran wide receiver Zay Jones, according to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz.

Jones, who will visit the team on Wednesday, has also garnered interest from the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals.

The 29-year-old receiver, drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, has had stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars. His most impressive season came in 2022 with the Jaguars, where he recorded 82 receptions for 823 yards and five touchdowns.

Jones’ potential addition to the Cowboys’ roster could provide help for star receiver CeeDee Lamb, who often draws significant defensive attention. With Jones’ ability to make big plays, he could help distribute the offensive workload and create more opportunities for Lamb and other receivers.

Jones’ experience and skillset also align with the Cowboys’ need for a reliable slot receiver. His ability to create separation and make plays in traffic would be a valuable asset for quarterback Dak Prescott, who has been looking for a consistent target to complement Lamb.

However, it’s worth noting as well that Jones’ age, 29, aligns with the Cowboys’ trend of signing older players. Quarterback Dak Prescott will turn 31 this year, running back Ezekiel Elliott will be 29 in July, and receiver Brandin Cooks is already 30. This raises questions about the team’s long-term strategy and the need for a youth injection to maintain sustainability.

If the Cowboys do decide to sign Jones, it could be a short-term move to bolster their offense and make a push for a championship this season. With their current roster and questions about the future of stars like Prescott, Dallas needs to make this year count, and Jones’ experience and skills could be valuable a valuable asset in achieving that goal.

Additionally, the Cowboys’ receiving corps has been a topic of discussion this offseason, with many speculating about the team’s need for more depth and talent. The addition of Jones would address that concern and provide a much-needed boost to the offense.

Furthermore, Jones’ character and work ethic have been praised by coaches and teammates throughout his career. His leadership and veteran presence would be a welcome addition to the Cowboys’ locker room.

All of that being said, the potential signing of Zay Jones would be a smart move by the Cowboys to strengthen their offense and make a serious push for a Super Bowl appearance. While concerns about the team’s age and long-term strategy are valid, Jones’ skills and experience make him an attractive option for a team looking to win now.
