New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson was not targeted until the third quarter of his team’s embarrassing loss to the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday, and when asked about it by a reporter after the game, he did not want to hear about it.

“I’m aware,” Wilson said, cutting off ESPN’s Rich Cimini before he could even finish his question (via Andrew Esden Jr. of The Score 1260).

Wilson then expounded on his answer.

“It seems like we are being unintentional, to be honest, and that’s kind of my mindset,” Wilson said. “I feel like that doesn’t have to be the case. It was. I guess I’ve got to fix it. I’ve got to figure out how I can get involved in the first quarter. Starting practice fast, I don’t know, I’ve got to show something. I’ve got to do something, I don’t know. They had a good plan for us, they did a good job getting after us, and made it hard. It was what it was. I’ve got to be able to adjust my…I don’t know, I’ve got to figure it out.”

Wilson ultimately logged three catches for 29 yards on four targets in what ended up being a 30-0 loss. On the season overall, he has caught 79 passes for 882 yards and three touchdowns.

The Jets, who were officially eliminated from playoff contention with the loss to the Dolphins, went into Week 15 with Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback, but a head injury knocked him out of the game in the first half and paved the way for Trevor Siemian, who put forth a brutal performance in the defeat.

With New York’s instability under center all season long, Garrett Wilson’s job has obviously become that much more difficult.

“I’ve got to figure out how to be better, run better routes, be better in the meeting rooms, figure out how I can be involved early and often,” he added.

The 23-year-old was selected by the Jets with the 10th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft and hauled in 83 receptions for 1,103 yards and four scores during an impressive rookie campaign.

New York is just 5-9 on the season and will take on the Washington Commanders next weekend. The Jets will then face the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots to close things out.
