New York Jets Have Gotten Trade Offers For Zach Wilson

Zach Wilson’s tenure with the New York Jets seems to be coming to an inevitable end. It doesn’t seem to be an “if” at this point; it’s more of a “when.”

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Jets have gotten trade offers for Wilson, but they have not received any inquiries they like.

Florio notes that New York is holding out for something better and that owner Woody Johnson is the person standing firm.

Of course, trading Wilson will be no easy task given the fact that he has a fully guaranteed compensation package of $5.5 million next season. So, the Jets may have to include a draft pick with Wilson in order to get another team to take on his salary.

You can see why this is a complicated situation for Gang Green.

Wilson’s trade value is incredibly minimal at this point. This past season, he played in 12 games with 11 starts and threw for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 60.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 77.2.

That was actually the best year of his career to date.

Wilson, who played his collegiate football at BYU, was selected by New York with the second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He mired through a dreadful rookie campaign, making 13 starts and totaling 2,334 yards, nine touchdowns and 11 picks while completing just 55.6 percent of his throws and registering a 69.7 passer rating.

The 24-year-old wasn’t much better in 2022, starting nine contests and finishing with 1,688 yards, six touchdowns and seven picks, completing 54.5 percent of his passes and recording a passer rating of 72.8.

Wilson has been a colossal bust for the Jets. How much of that is his fault and how much is on New York for not properly developing him is up for debate, but it seems pretty clear that Wilson will almost certainly never live up to his draft status.

The Jets have Aaron Rodgers coming back from a torn Achilles next season and have signed Tyrod Taylor as his backup, so they have no real need for Zach Wilson anymore.

We’ll see if New York finds an offer it genuinely likes in the coming weeks.
