Jets Named Best Fit For Star Free Agent Pass Rusher

The New York Jets are in need of a pass rusher after losing Bryce Huff to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, and luckily for them, there is still a pretty good one remaining on the market.

Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney met with the Jets recently and seems to be biding his time before he decides where he will be playing his football in 2024.

However, Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport thinks that New York is the best fit for the edge rusher.

Clowney spent the 2023 campaign with the Baltimore Ravens and was impressive, racking up 43 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and five passes defended.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by the Houston Texans with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

After a pair of underwhelming seasons to begin his career, Clowney finally broke through in his third year and made three straight trips to the Pro Bowl between 2016 and 2018. His best season during that span came in 2017, when he rattled off 59 tackles, 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Clowney spent the first five years of his career with the Texans, and since then, he has bounced around the league quite a bit, playing for the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and, most recently, the Ravens.

The Jets totaled 48 sacks this past season, but 10 of those sacks came from the aforementioned Huff. Not a single other New York player finished with any more than seven sacks in 2023, so Gang Green could certainly stand to add another piece to its pass rush.

While Clowney has never reached double-digit sacks in his career himself, he remains an impactful player and would absolutely be a terrific addition to the Jets’ front seven.

We’ll see if New York can get something done with the veteran.
