The New York Jets may have a pretty stacked roster on paper, but the fact of the matter is that their receiving corps don’t have a whole lot of top-level talent behind Garrett Wilson.
Yes, the Jets have wide receivers like Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman and Randall Cobb, but they are auxiliary pieces more than anything else.
Clearly, New York could use a true No. 2 to put alongside of Wilson.
Why not Marquise “Hollywood” Brown?
Brown is currently playing for an Arizona Cardinals team that is going nowhere fast, and with Brown being a free agent at the end of the year, it might be wise for the Cardinals to move him before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline and recoup some value for him before he merely signs elsewhere in the spring..
The Jets could send a 2024 third-round draft pick to Arizona in exchange for Brown, who has logged nine catches for 82 yards and a score through the first two weeks of the season.
Brown, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens with the 25th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
The 26-year-old spent the first three years of his career in Baltimore, with his best season coming in 2021 when he hauled in 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.
However, Brown became disgruntled with his role in the Ravens’ run-heavy offense, and Baltimore obliged his trade demand and sent him to Arizona in April 2022.
Hollywood Brown’s first year in the desert did not go according to plan, as injuries limited him to 12 games and he finished with 67 catches for 709 yards and three scores. It didn’t help matters that quarterback Kyler Murray went down with a torn ACL.
The Hollywood, Fl. native could slot right in alongside Wilson and give the Jets one of the better one-two receiver punches in the league.
