It’s widely speculated that the Chicago Bears have their sights set on selecting Caleb Williams with the coveted No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. Consequently, this could mean a departure for Justin Fields.
Recent reports from the NFL Network suggest that the Atlanta Falcons are emerging as a potential landing spot for the former standout quarterback from Ohio State University.
“If that all tracks, expect the Bears to be able to fetch a premium pick for Fields, who came on late in the season and flashed the potential he’s always had. The kind of leader he is in the locker room stands out, as well. This should be an active market, with teams such as the Falcons, in need of a quarterback but possibly drafting too late (No. 8 overall) for a premium one, emerging as an option, along with any other team that doesn’t believe it can land a top QB in the draft.”
Should a trade materialize, Fields could command a substantial return for the Bears. Despite moments of brilliance during his tenure with Chicago, Fields has also grappled with inconsistency, a challenge exacerbated by the team’s lackluster supporting cast.
During the 2023 season with the Bears, Justin Fields ended up playing in 13 games. He completed 61.4 percent of his pass attempts for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. In addition to his passing numbers, he picked up 657 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
There is no question that Fields has what it takes to be an NFL star quarterback. He simply needs a good and consistent coaching staff around him, weapons, and protection. If his new team can offer him that, the sky would be the limit for Fields.
With the 2024 NFL Draft looming just two months away, the speculation surrounding Fields’ future intensifies. It will be interesting to see what the Bears choose to do.
