The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 28-23 in a pivotal NFC East divisional matchup this past Sunday, and Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd ripped the Cowboys afterward.
“Philly is a perfectly coordinated 4×100 relay team. The Cowboys look like people in a potato sack race falling over each other,” Cowherd said.
Cowherd knew that Dallas would keep the game close and he feels that the Cowboys have the talent and the personnel to match up well with the Eagles.
However, he said that the difference in the game would be the little things like third downs, fourth downs, late-game decisions, etc.
Going by the numbers, you would think the Cowboys should have won the game. They outgained the Eagles in total yards 406 to 292. They averaged 5.8 yards per play to Philadelphia’s 4.9. They totaled 27 first downs to Philly’s 20. They ran 11 more plays than the Eagles.
Both teams were penalized 10 times, so it’s not like that was a huge advantage for Philadelphia.
In the end, the Birds simply made more plays when it counted, and the Cowboys fell just short of beating them on the road in spite of doing almost everything they had to do to win.
Heck, it should also be mentioned that Dak Prescott had one of his most impressive performances of the season, going 29-for-44 with 374 yards and three touchdowns.
In spite of all of that, Dallas still could not find a way to get the job done.
The Eagles improved to 8-1 with the victory and increased their lead over the Cowboys to two-and-a-half games in the NFC East.
The good news for Dallas is that it will see Philadelphia again on Dec. 10, and next time, the game will be at AT&T Stadium in Texas.
Until then, the Cowboys have a couple of “gimme” games on their upcoming schedule with the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers.
Dallas is 5-3.
