The San Francisco 49ers reasserted their standing as arguably the best team in the NFL in Week 13. They put together a convincing 42-19 victory, on the road nonetheless, over the Philadelphia Eagles, who still have the best record in the NFL at 10-2.

The 49ers are right on their heels at 9-3, tied for the second-best record in the conference with the Detroit Lions. However, there are levels to the dominance of each team and the 49ers, when playing up to their potential, look like the best team.

Earlier in the season, some doubt began to creep in about whether quarterback Brock Purdy was capable of leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl. When the team went on a three-game losing streak, people were armed with pitchforks to call him a fraud. That doubt has been washed away with some stellar performances out of the bye.

Purdy was excellent against the Eagles, completing 19-of-27 passes for 314 yards and four touchdowns. It was the third time out of the last four games that Purdy has thrown at least three touchdowns without throwing an interception. The performance against the Eagles also put Purdy as the odds-on favorite to win the MVP award, recognition that he deserves.

NFL News & Rumors: Brock Purdy & San Francisco 49ers Updates

Some in the national media are now giving Purdy his flowers as well. During a recent segment on Monday QB on CBS Sports, former NFL quarterback Danny Kannell made the argument that Purdy is off to arguably the best start to a career in NFL history.

Purdy has now started 17 games, which is one full season. According to Kannell, Purdy has the highest completion percentage, the most yards per attempt and the highest QBR in the history of the NFL for any quarterback through their first 17 starts.

You would be hard-pressed to find a quarterback that can compare to what Brock Purdy has accomplished through the first 17 starts of his career. What he has accomplished is unprecedented, earning the right to be in the MVP conversation this season.
