NFL Analyst Rips Into Aaron Rodgers Amid Jets’ Pursuit

Aaron Rodgers, Jets

The Aaron Rodgers saga has been dominating headlines throughout the last few days. While he has not made an official decision about what he wants to do for the upcoming season, all signs are pointing toward him joining the New York Jets.

Aaron Rodgers reportedly provided the Jets with a list of players that he would like to see them sign in free agency before agreeing to join the team. Former Green Bay Packers teammates Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Marcedes Lewis were on that list along with Odell Beckham Jr.

New York has already secured a contract with Lazard, agreeing to a four-year, $44 million deal with $22 million guaranteed. That makes him the highest-paid wide receiver in free agency thus far.

His addition makes sense, but bringing on Cobb when you already have Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore and Corey Davis in the fold wouldn’t make any sense beyond appeasing Aaron Rodgers. Lewis would bring something as a blocker but isn’t much of a threat as a receiver anymore.

The real holdup will be Beckham, who is seeking a massive contract. The Jets don’t have the cap space to sign him to a deal worth $15-20 million that he is seeking. And again, they already have good wide receivers in place.

The whole ordeal is something that plenty of people are getting tired of waiting for a resolution on. One of those people is Hall of Fame tight end, Shannon Sharpe. During a recent episode of UNDISPUTED, he ripped into Aaron Rodgers about dragging things out in this fashion.

“Typical Aaron, holding teams hostage with his decision. The quicker he moves to the Jets, the quicker I’m going to forget him stinking it up the last 3 years, even with 2 MVPs.”

Those are certainly some strong words from Sharpe, but many people share that sentiment. Acquiring Aaron Rodgers would be a flashy move for the Jets, but how effective it will be on the field is another story.

For the most part, New York has the pieces to be a contending team in place. But it is certainly a risk acquiring a 39-year-old quarterback coming off the underwhelming season which Aaron Rodgers just had.
