NFL Analyst Urges Steelers To Sign Russell Wilson

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of an upgrade at quarterback, and with Russell Wilson likely becoming available this offseason, the Steelers could try to bring him aboard.

Former NFL center and current ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday would be in full support of Pittsburgh adding Wilson and is actually pushing for the club to sign him if and when the Denver Broncos cut him.

“Russell Wilson for Arthur Smith would be the best fit and because he wants to play under center,” Saturday said on ESPN’s Get Up this week. “He wants play action. He’s a veteran quarterback. All the different things.”

The Steelers recently hired Smith as their offensive coordinator, and Saturday seems to think Wilson would be a perfect fit for the former Atlanta Falcons head coach.

“Think about Seattle and all those years, the Steelers are very similar,” continued Saturday. “Big, physical receiver outside, little quick one inside, good running game … defense that can win championships. It’s a massive upgrade there.”

Pittsburgh is currently employing Kenny Pickett under center, and although Pickett was the 20th overall pick two years ago, the early returns have not been satisfactory.

Pickett struggled mightily during his rookie campaign, and this past year, he showed little to no progression before an ankle injury ultimately ended his season. As a matter of fact, Pickett was slated to return from his injury, but was benched in favor of Mason Rudolph.

Wilson is coming off of a solid campaign with the Broncos in which he threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 66.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98.

Denver benched Russell Wilson for the final two games of the regular season after he declined to defer his $37 million injury guarantee. The Broncos are expected to release him this offseason.
