It has become abundantly clear that Derek Carr’s time with the Las Vegas Raiders has come to an end. After nine seasons with the team, his heartfelt letter to the fans sealed his fate after he was benched for the final two games of the 2022 regular season after the team was eliminated from playoff contention.

The Raiders now have their work cut out for them when it comes to finding a new home for Derek Carr. There is a three-day window after the Super Bowl in which they will have to trade him. If they cannot find a trade, they will have to release him to avoid his contract becoming fully guaranteed.

There has been a lot of speculation about where Derek Carr could end up. He has been connected to a number of teams already as arguably the best available quarterback this offseason.

Las Vegas would certainly prefer trading Derek Carr so that they can get some form of compensation back in return for him. The team has granted him permission to talk to teams, which should get negotiations moving in the right direction. Where could he end up? One former NFL executive that spoke to NFL Analysis Network had a bold prediction about Derek Carr’s next franchise.

“The Jets, Commanders, and Buccaneers are all talked about as Derek Carr landing spots, however, there is another big threat. I think the Saints are going to push to acquire or sign him. That connection is one I think has the best chance of actually happening.”

The New Orleans Saints would certainly be an intriguing landing spot for the veteran. They have some nice pieces in place offensively with running back Alvin Kamara and wide receiver Chris Olave. The Saints also had a top-10 defense in 2022, so they are not far off from being a playoff team.

New Orleans could also be motivated as the NFC South is now wide open with Tom Brady’s retirement. If they can acquire Derek Carr and keep him away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it could make them the favorites for the division title next season.

The New York Jets seem more focused on trying to acquire Aaron Rodgers at the moment, which could take them out of the running. Sam Howell looks to have the inside track with the Washington Commanders, but if that changes, they make for a strong Derek Carr suitor as well.
