Bills’ GM Says Josh Allen Was Alerted About Stefon Diggs Trade

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane did not leave quarterback Josh Allen in the dark when it came to trading wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

The Bills dealt Diggs to the Houston Texans in a rather surprising move on Wednesday, and afterward, Beane said that Allen knew a trade was a possibility.

“I did alert [Allen] that there had been some inquiries and it wasn’t 100 percent off the table,” Beane said, via Alec White and Maddy Glab of the Bills’ official team website. “Josh and I have a pretty regular conversation on things and I think it’s important for me to make sure if I think something could happen to make sure he’s not blindsided.”

Given that Allen is Buffalo’s franchise quarterback, it makes sense that Beane and the Bills’ front office would at least keep him abreast of their decisions.

Allen and Diggs spent four years together after Buffalo acquired Diggs in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings back in March 2020. Diggs had never made a Pro Bowl before joining the Bills, but he made trips to the Pro Bowl in each of his four seasons with Allen in Buffalo.

“They’ve been a really good duo,” Beane said of Diggs and Allen. “I don’t think Stef made All-Pro before he got here, and he made multiple and some Pro Bowls in there too. And, Josh ramped up as well. So I do think when they were clicking, the games they were clicking or the seasons they were really clicking. You could say they were probably up there with most any quarterback-receiver.”

Questions about the relationship between Allen and Diggs persisted over the last couple of years, although all parties insisted everything was fine.

Still, the chatter certainly didn’t cease when Diggs logged five 100-yard performances over his first six games of 2023 and then did not register a single 100-yard outing the rest of the way.

Diggs said that he was not injured, so many felt that there was some sort of disconnect between Allen and Diggs that was affecting their on-field dynamic.

Whatever the case may be, Josh Allen will now be facing Stefon Diggs as an opponent, as the Bills will battle the Texans next season.
