The Green Bay Packers have shockingly made the playoffs, defeating the Chicago Bears in the regular-season finale to snatch the NFC’s final Wild Card Spot.
But a former NFL executive thinks the Packers may not stop there.
“This is a team that no one wants to play in the playoffs,” the former exec told the NFL Analysis Network. “I’m not saying they’re going to beat Dallas, but I think the Packers have a very good shot. They may be an underdog, but they’re going to put on a good show and give the Cowboys a run for their money at the very least.”
The Cowboys are heavy favorites to beat the Packers on Sunday, which is understandable. The game will be in Dallas, where the Cowboys went undefeated this season. Dak Prescott led the league in passing touchdowns. CeeDee Lamb is one of football’s best receivers. The defense is ferocious.
However, at this point, we probably shouldn’t be doubting Green Bay.
The Packers were 3-6 at one point this season, but thanks to some magnificent play from quarterback Jordan Love down the stretch, they closed out the year 6-2 to finish 9-8 and make a postseason appearance that seemed improbable a couple of months ago.
It’s not like Green Bay only beat cupcakes during that run, either, as it boasted wins over the Detroit Lions (on the road) and Kansas City Chiefs.
Will the Packers be able to upset the Cowboys this weekend? You probably shouldn’t bet on it, considering Dallas looks like a legitimate Super Bowl contender right now. But the fact that Green Bay is even here is a testament to just how far the club has come this year, and like the former executive said: it would not be the least bit surprising if the Packers put a scare into the Cowboys.
