Steelers Land Superstar WR In This Blockbuster Trade Proposal

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of some help at wide receiver behind George Pickens, but they were unable to find it in free agency.

They were able to select University of Michigan receiver Roman Wilson in the third round of the NFL Draft, but the Steelers need some proven talent.

That’s why Pittsburgh has been mentioned in trade speculation for a superstar wide out, with some pegging the club as a destination for San Franciso 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk.

But Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport sees an even better potential target: D.K. Metcalf.

Unlike Aiyuk, who is preparing to enter the final year of his deal, Metcalf is under contract through 2025 after signing a three-year, $72 million extension with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022.

Davenport notes an article by Mookie Alexander of Field Gulls, where Alexander says that there has been speculation Metcalf could be moved, although the chances of it happening seem slim.

The thing is, trading Metcalf after June 1 would save the Seahawks $17 million in cap room, so there is at least some incentive for Seattle to make something happen.

Davenport proposes that the Steelers send a 2025 first-round draft pick, a fifth-rounder and a 2026 second-rounder to the Seahawks in exchange for Metcalf.

That could certainly be enough to at least pique Seattle’s interest.

Metcalf is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and caught 66 passes for 1,114 yards and eight touchdowns en route to his second Pro Bowl appearance.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Mississippi, was selected by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

His best season to date came in 2020, when he hauled in 83 receptions for 1,303 yards and 10 scores.

We’ll see if Pittsburgh places a call to Seattle about Metcalf this offseason.
