The New York Jets are facing a lot of expectations heading into the 2023 season. They made the biggest splash of the offseason acquiring future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers to lead their offense.
Jets’ owner Woody Johnson made it clear the No. 1 goal for the franchise this offseason should be upgrading the quarterback position. He feels that was the missing piece for the team to contend for a Super Bowl and general manager Joe Douglas came through.
Even in the twilight of his career, Aaron Rodgers represents a huge upgrade for the Jets. Had they received the kind of production that he had last season with the Packers, which was below his career norms, the Jets likely make the playoffs.
Zach Wilson, Mike White and Joe Flacco gave the team virtually nothing in the second half of the season. After starting out 6-3, the team ended up losing seven of their last eight games, including six in a row. In the last three games of the season, New York failed to score a single touchdown.
With Aaron Rodgers under center, those kinds of struggles shouldn’t exist. If the team goes three quarters without a touchdown, let alone three games, people are going to be surprised.
Expectations and predictions for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets are all over the place. However, one former NFL executive that spoke to NFL Analysis Network believes they are going right to the top in 2023.
“Aaron (Rodgers) hasn’t had this kind of chip on his shoulder in a long time. I think he wins another MVP this season. And, I think he leads the Jets to the Super Bowl.”
That would be quite an achievement for the 2023 season. The Jets are currently riding the longest playoff drought in the Big 4 sports in North America, missing the postseason in 12 seasons and counting.
They acquired Aaron Rodgers to not only snap that streak but make them contenders. The former executive certainly believes that will happen, predicting the Jets to be the last team standing to hoist the Lombardi Trophy next February.
