Indianapolis Colts
There is a position battle brewing for the Colts. However, both backs are likely to be very heavily involved in the offense. Marlon Mack is coming off a very productive season last season. However, Indianapolis is an offense built to dominate on the ground.
This offseason, the Colts drafted college football legend, Jonathan Taylor, in the second round. This is likely because the offensive line is just so dominant that they can completely take over a football game.
This season Mack and Taylor will be one of the best 1-2 punches in the NFL. While neither back is likely to reach 250 carries, it’s possible they both receive about 180 each. Rookie back Taylor embraces this challenge speaking to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, Taylor states:
You don’t count the reps; you make the reps count. Whenever you’re in, you’re on – make sure you are 100 percent.
This kind of maturity is something that should be praised. However, don’t let the humbleness fool you, when Taylor touches the ball he has the ability to score every play.
The Colts have a chance to lead the NFL in rushing yards this season. We may see something very rarely done in the NFL. This duo, if healthy, has the ability to have two 1,000 yard rushers.
While the Colts’ main focus will be on winning and making the playoffs, it would be very interesting to see if these two can pull it off. My prediction is Jonathan Taylor finishes with 1,050 rushing yards and six touchdowns while Marlon Mack finishes with 900 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Not quite two 1,000 yard rushers but still very good.
