Jacksonville Jaguars
Leonard Fournette has unfairly been cast aside as one of the many early round running backs busts over the past decade. While yes, he isn’t the Adrian Peterson level good many were expecting, Fournette has been productive.
Perhaps given more opportunity Fournette would thrive. Let’s not forget Gardner Minshew II is the first reliable quarterback Fournette has ever had. To this point in his career, the opposing defensive scheme has been stack the box and don’t let Fournette go anywhere. Defenses cannot do that now.
This season many are predicting the Jaguars to be one of the league’s worst teams. However, this offense has a lot of potential. Garnder Minshew II is far from a quirky personality and a rookie surprise. The kid has a lot of talent. Now that they have a solid QB, the rest of the offense can open up.
Jay Gruden is bringing in a new offensive scheme and Fournette will finally be able to work. Last season Fournette quietly came in as the 7th leading rusher in the NFL. It’s possible he cracks the top-five this season.
Another quiet signing was the addition of Chris Thompson to help the passing attack. Thompson found a good amount of success in Jay Gruden’s offense in Washington. While he won’t threaten Fournette much, he could be a real difference-maker in Jacksonville.
This season, Jacksonville could end up being one of those sneak good teams. They might not make the playoffs, but they are closer than a lot of people think. Much like Fournette, Jacksonville may fly under the radar. Look for Leonard Fournette to have a career ear as well rushing for 1,300 yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
