NFL Insider Dishes More Intel On Kirk Cousins To Jets Rumors

Kirk Cousins, Jets

The Minnesota Vikings have gotten off to a horrific 0-3 start, engendering rumors that the club could move quarterback Kirk Cousins ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

The general consensus is that the New York Jets would be the most likely landing spot for Cousins in the event of a trade.

It makes perfect sense. The Jets lost Aaron Rodgers to a torn Achilles on the first offensive series of Week 1, forcing Zach Wilson under center submarining the team’s Super Bowl hopes.

However, while Adam Schefter of ESPN acknowledges that New York would be a good fit for Cousins, he hasn’t heard anything on that front right now.

Schefter adds that he’s not sure the Vikings want to trade Cousins just yet because it obviously be their way of waving the white flag on the season, which wouldn’t send a great message to their players.

While that may be true, only six teams since 1979 have made the playoffs after starting off 0-3, and even though an extra Wild Card spot was added in 2020, Minnesota has not shown any indication that it is a legitimate postseason contender through the first three weeks of 2023.

To be fair, the Vikings did win 13 games a year ago, but thus far, it seems fairly clear that something is off. Perhaps this team has gone as far as it possibly can as currently constructed.

Should Minnesota continue losing, you have to think it would seriously consider moving Cousins in the coming weeks. Cousins is in the final year of his deal, and if the Vikings want to kick off a rebuild next season, the 35-year-old certainly won’t be a part of it.

Kirk Cousins has actually played very well through the first three games, leading the NFL in completions, passing yards and touchdowns. However, it hasn’t resulted in wins, which symptomatic of how poor Minnesota has played as a team.
