The Houston Texans are poised to make waves in this year’s offseason, with rumors swirling around the potential acquisition of former New York Giants star, Saquon Barkley.
Barkley, who has spent the entirety of his five-year career with the Giants, is set to hit free agency, sparking interest from various teams, including the Texans.
Sources within the league have indicated Barkley’s interest in joining the Texans, adding fuel to the speculation surrounding his potential move.
“The Texans are also expected to explore additional running back options and there are scenarios where they sign more than one running back. The headliner of the running back free agent class is New York Giants star Saquon Barkley, who has targeted the Texans as his top potential destination and has been communicating with Stroud, per league sources. Barkley could, of course, remain with the Giants potentially as general manager Joe Schoen is holding talks with the former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year’s agent, Edward Berry, of Creative Artists Agency.”
Meanwhile, the Texans could have their eyes on retaining Devin Singletary, who showcased his abilities during the 2023 season, amassing nearly 900 rushing yards and over 1,000 scrimmage yards.
Barkley boasts an impressive resume, having surpassed 5,200 rushing yards in his career, with three seasons exceeding the coveted 1,000-yard mark. His addition to the Texans’ roster would undoubtedly bolster their offense and elevate the team’s performance, especially considering his potential connection with quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Drafted second overall by the Giants in 2019, Barkley made an immediate impact with a stellar rookie season, accumulating 1,307 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Despite encountering injuries in subsequent seasons, Barkley continued to demonstrate his prowess, achieving over 1,000 rushing yards in both 2019 and 2022, including a career-high of 1,310 yards in 2022.
While the Giants have expressed interest in retaining Barkley, the allure of joining a dynamic Texans team led by a promising young quarterback and a capable head coach makes Houston an appealing destination for the talented running back.
