NFL Insider Has Strong Response To Najee Harris, Cowboys Rumors

Najee Harris, Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys probably aren’t in the running for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris, regardless of what the rumors are stating.

The Steelers declined Harris’ fifth-year option recently, drumming up speculation that the team could trade him. Given that the Cowboys are in dire need of running back help, they seemed to make sense as a potential destination for Harris, which is probably why the Harris-to-Cowboys rumors started.

But apparently, there is nothing to that chatter.

According to Jane Slater of NFL Network, a Dallas team source said that the Harris rumors were nothing but “click bait.”

Basically, nothing is happening on that front.

The Cowboys were unable to sign a running back in free agency due to financial constraints, and they also struck out on one in the NFL Draft late last month.

As a result, Dallas brought back Ezekiel Elliott last week, although it’s abundantly clear that Elliott is no longer a No. 1 back at this stage of his career.

Currently, the Cowboys’ backfield features Elliott, Deuce Vaughn and Rico Dowdle, which is hardly an enviable situation.

So, you can see why many naturally pegged Dallas as a fit for Harris.

Harris is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played every game and rushed for 1,035 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 4.1 yards per carry.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by Pittsburgh with the 24th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Najee Harris has never missed a game and has registered over 1,000 yards on the ground in each of his three seasons, but he has logged just 3.9 yards per attempt in the process.

We’ll see if the Cowboys try to make a move for someone else at running back in the coming months.
