There is plenty of speculation that the Buffalo Bills could trade wide receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason, and Diggs’ rather diplomatic comments about his future with the Bills at the Pro Bowl have only added more fuel to the fire.
However, Ralph Ventre of Bills Central doesn’t even think this is worth discussing.
Ventre has gone as far to call the Diggs trade rumors “nonsense,” qualifying his statement by saying that Buffalo would take a $31 million dead cap hit if it moves the star wide out.
He also adds that fellow receiver Gabe Davis is probably going to walk in free agency, so if the Bills trade Diggs as well, they would be left with little to nothing in their receiving corps.
Buffalo has one of the worst salary cap situations in the NFL going into the offseason. Spotrac projects the Bills will be $51.8 million over the cap, meaning they will encounter a whole lot of difficulty attempting to sign free agents next month.
In that case, moving Diggs does not seem like a very plausible scenario.
Diggs is coming off of a very odd 2023-24 campaign in which he totaled 100 receiving yards five times in his first six games. However, he did not a single 100-yard performance after that, which has many questioning his role in Buffalo’s offense and his relationship with quarterback Josh Allen.
The 30-year-old has insisted everything is fine on all accounts, which makes you wonder what exactly went wrong for Diggs during the second half of the season.
Diggs spent the first five years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings before being traded to the Bills in March 2020.
He has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons in Buffalo.
We’ll see what becomes of Stefon Diggs in the coming months.
