The New England Patriots may find themselves in the market for a new quarterback this NFL offseason. When the Patriots took Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick back in 2021, they hoped he would be the successor to Tom Brady.
It has not gone according to plan. Jones has struggled mightily under center in his third season, having been benched the last couple of weeks in a pair of blowout losses. On top of that, New England is just 1-4.
The Pats actually shopped Jones around in the spring, so they will surely have no qualms about making a move at signal-caller if Jones continues to labor through 2023.
One interesting name to monitor is Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. Alex Hoegler of Total Pro Sports mentions the Patriots as a possible suitor for Murray, who seems to have worn out his welcome in Arizona.

Murray is currently recovering from a torn ACL he suffered late last season and almost surely will not be back this year. Not only that, but there are many who feel that the University of Oklahoma product has played his last snap as a member of the Cardinals.
While Murray has posted some decent numbers and has even made a couple of Pro Bowl appearances since entering the league in 2019, consistency has been an issue for him, and Arizona has not exactly been thrilled with his attitude.

The problem with Murray is that he is in the middle of a massive $230.5 million contract, so whether or not Bill Belichick would want to absorb that is anyone’s guess.
Still, there seems to be little doubt that Murray represents a superior alternative to Jones, and given his age and talent, he might be the best option available for New England come springtime.
