NFL Twitter Reacts To Jets’ Reported Offer To Odell Beckham Jr.

The New York Jets have yet to complete a deal with the Green Bay Packers for star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. That has led to them not making very many moves this offseason as they will need as much money as possible available to fit Rodgers’ contract on the books.

One of the moves that the team was hoping to make was signing wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He was one of the players that Rodgers was hoping the Jets would bring in before he was traded there, but it wasn’t in the cards.

Beckham ended up signing a deal with the Baltimore Ravens, agreeing to a one-year deal worth up to $18 million. That wasn’t a deal that the Jets were ever going to get close to matching. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, their offer was closer to $5 million and thought to have some incentives included.

Not surprisingly, that post brought some interesting reactions from people within NFL Twitter. The appeal of playing alongside Rodgers is something one user wouldn’t have passed up on, even if it meant making less money.

“I would have rather taken less money to play with Aaron Rodgers…but what do I know,” one user stated.

The Jets’ wide receiver room is a crowded one. They signed Allen Lazard to a four-year, $44 million deal early in free agency, who has spent his entire career with the Packers catching passes from Rodgers. New York also signed Mecole Hardman and still has holdovers in Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis and Denzel Mims.

Could that have played a part in the Jets making such a low offer? That is what one user insinuated, as the “interest” in Beckham they believe to have just been to appease Rodgers.

“What a weak offer. No chance they were seriously trying to get him. Seems like posturing to Rodgers to me.”

One Ravens fan chimed in, as their response can be taken in a multitude of ways. It can be interpreted as someone who was telling people for a while that the Ravens were the leaders for Beckham despite reports. Or, as someone disappointed Baltimore paid so much for a player who wasn’t receiving anywhere near that level of interest elsewhere.

“Aaaannnnddd, not even close to what we offered,” a Ravens fan responded.

NFL Twitter never lets you down for some reactions to big news around the league. The Ravens landing Beckham is huge as he will provide a major boost at the wide receiver position. His presence could also positively impact the team’s pursuit of Lamar Jackson, who had the non-exclusive franchise tag placed on him and remains without a long-term contract.
