NFL Writer Urges Vikings To Trade Justin Jefferson This Offseason

The Minnesota Vikings have yet to reach a long-term agreement with wide receiver Justin Jefferson, which has some wondering if the Vikings could entertain trading the superstar.

Adam Rank of NFL.com not only thinks Minnesota should entertain the idea; he thinks the Vikes should flat out do it.

Rank references the fact that the Vikings traded fellow wide out Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills for a massive return in 2020, saying that Minnesota could probably even get a greater haul for Jefferson if it moved him this offseason.

He also notes that this could end up being a transitional period for the Vikings, who may end up losing quarterback Kirk Cousins and star edge rusher Danielle Hunter to free agency in the coming weeks.

That would coincide with the final year of Jefferson’s deal, and Jefferson may not be too happy with the idea of being mostly uncompetitive in 2024.

Rank adds that the Vikings could take the proceeds from a potential Jefferson trade and use them to possibly draft their quarterback of the future.

Jefferson played in just 10 games due to a hamstring injury this past season, but he still managed to catch 68 passes for 1,074 yards and five touchdowns.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was selected by Minnesota with the 22nd overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He was thoroughly dominant over his first three seasons and showed improvement every year, highlighted by a 2022 campaign in which he led the league in both receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809).

Justin Jefferson is probably the best wide out in football, so he would surely generate massive interest if Minnesota puts him on the trade block.

We’ll see what the Vikings decide to do with the three-time Pro Bowler as time passes.
