Nick Herbig Reveals First Thoughts On Joining Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have done an excellent job in the first draft being run by general manager Omar Khan. He has some big shoes to fill taking over for Kevin Colbert, who oversaw some excellent teams during his time leading the front office.

Khan is looking to replicate that success and if he continues finding value in future drafts, the outlook is bright. Khan did a great job of moving up and down the board, addressing needs while also maximizing value.

With the 30th pick in the fourth round, No. 132 overall, they did it again with the selection of Wisconsin outside linebacker, Nick Herbig. Herbig doesn’t possess intimidating size for an edge rusher, but he has a non-stop motor that produced collegiately with the Badgers.

In 31 career games, Herbig recorded 36 tackles for loss and 21 sacks. He had seven passes defended and four fumble recoveries as well to go along with 134 total tackles. While there are some concerns about his size and length at the next level, he more than makes up for it with his relentlessness and constant motor.

He fits the mold of the kind of players that the Steelers like deploying on their defense. They are certainly excited to have him on the roster and the feeling is mutual. Herbig is excited to get going in Pittsburgh and showcase his talent at the next level.

Nick Herbig is going to benefit from playing behind stellar pass rushers in T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. Both are excellent at getting after the quarterback and will be able to teach Herbig a thing or two.

The Wisconsin product does a good job of making up for his lack of size with an array of pass-rushing moves and counters. He is also solid against the run, giving himself the tools to get on the field early and often and find success.
