Packers Add Major Playmaker For Jordan Love In Second Round

The Green Bay Packers surprised a lot of people when they didn’t use their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on a pass catcher for Jordan Love. When they came on the clock at No. 13, there hadn’t been a single wide receiver or tight end selected, so they had their pick of the litter. However, Green Bay opted to go in a different direction, selecting Iowa defensive end Lukas Van Ness.

However, the Packers wasted little time addressing those needs on Day 2. With the No. 42 overall pick, which was acquired earlier this week from the New York Jets in the Aaron Rodgers blockbuster, Green Bay selected Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave.

Musgrave fills a major need on the roster as the Packers lost Robert Tonyan in free agency to the Chicago Bears and Marcedes Lewis remains a free agent. However, he isn’t the only weapon that will be heading to Green Bay.

The Packers doubled down on pass catchers in Round 2, making a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to acquire the No. 50 overall pick. With that selection, the Packers selected Michigan State wide receiver, Jayden Reed.

Reed brings a ton of experience to the table as a five-year collegiate athlete. He began his career at Western Michigan before transferring to Michigan State for the final three seasons of his career. Despite some rocky quarterback play, Reed flashed with the Spartans.

He has excellent route running with the ability to beat man coverage whether it is from the slot or out on the boundary. Likely destined to play the slot in the NFL, the Packers now have an impressive trio of young wide receivers with diverse skill sets with Reed joining Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.

In addition to his skills as a wide receiver, Jayden Reed has experience playing on special teams as well. He had some excellent production as both a kick and punt returner, capable of providing the Packers with some production right off the bat even if it takes some time to adjust to playing wide receiver in the NFL.

Jordan Love has to be happy with his Packers so far in this 2023 NFL Draft.
