Things have not been going well for the Green Bay Packers in recent weeks. They are riding a three-game losing streak as teams have seemingly figured out how to slow down Jordan Love after a hot start to his tenure as the team’s starting quarterback.
Moving the ball consistently has been an issue offensively as the Packers currently rank 26th in total yards. The inability to get the ground game going has led to teams being able to pin their ears back and get after Jordan Love. When faced with pressure, he has struggled mightily.
While Matt LaFleur and his staff are going to do everything they can to get things back on track, there is one benefit to losing games in the NFL; you are guaranteed a top pick in the following draft. With the current standings, there is a chance the Packers land inside the top five of the 2024 NFL Draft.
According to PFF, Green Bay currently has a 26 percent chance of finishing with one of the five worst records in the NFL. The Chicago Bears, via the Carolina Panthers, who are 0-6, lead the way with a 79 percent chance.
The Arizona Cardinals are second with a 78 percent chance, followed by the New York Giants, Denver Broncos and Bears with their own pick at 43, 40 and 39 percent respectively. The only other team currently ahead of the Packers is the New England Patriots, who have a 28 percent chance.
Being that high in the NFL Draft is a rare occurrence for the Packers. The last time they picked in the top 10 was in 2009 when they selected defensive tackle B.J. Raji. 2006, when they selected A.J. Hawk, was the last time they were inside the top five.
There would be some healthy debates about what direction the franchise should go if they landed a pick that high. They would squarely be in the mix for a top quarterback prospect, which would be intriguing as landing in the top five likely means Jordan Love struggled.
The Packers could opt to surround Love, or whoever is the quarterback, with an elite offensive line prospect such as Olumuyiwa Fashanu of Penn State. Elite wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. would also look good in green and gold as a bonafide No. 1 receiver to round out the pass-catching group.
