Above all else, Teddy Bridgewater is a proven winner in the NFL. In Drew Brees’ absence in 2019, Bridgewater went 5-0 as a starter with a 99.1 quarterback rating.
Some may discredit those stats just because the Saints were loaded with talent this past season, but Bridgewater has been a winner ever since he entered the NFL. He has a 22-12 career record as a starter and he led the Minnesota Vikings to a playoff berth in just his second year as a pro.
Bridgewater would be an obvious improvement over Allen in Carolina and he’d be a great mentor for any young quarterback that the Panthers bring in. If he steps in and performs well, he could even cement himself as their new franchise guy.
He’s only 27-years-old, so he clearly has plenty of years left in him. Not to mention, he’d also have a great, young coaching staff to work with in Carolina. Aside from newly acquired head coach Matt Rhule, Carolina also brought in Joe Brady as their new offensive coordinator.
Brady was the passing game coordinator at LSU last season, helping his team win the National Championship while also helping his quarterback bring home the Heisman Trophy.
If Carolina pulls the trigger and cuts Newton this offseason, don’t be surprised if they pursue a veteran QB like Bridgewater.
