If you gave people truth serum on the Carolina Panthers, they would probably admit they wish they could have a do-over on the offseason blockbuster trade with the Chicago Bears. The Panthers acquired the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from the Bears, but it cost them a ton of assets.
One of those assets was wide receiver D.J. Moore. Moore has proven to be a legitimate No. 1, go-to receiver in the NFL. Ironically enough, that is now what the Panthers are seeking to put around Bryce Young, who they selected No. 1 overall.
Adding a wide receiver would only create more of a logjam than there already is on the Carolina depth chart. Veteran Adam Thielen has separated himself from the pack as Young’s No. 1 target in the offense, while everyone else plays rotational snaps without making too much of an impact.
One of those rotational players is Terrace Marshal Jr. A second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Marshall has shown some flashes as a professional but has not played consistently enough to lock down a regular role. Just two games ago, he didn’t see the field for a single snap despite having 10 targets and nine receptions for 56 yards the week prior.
Looking for an opportunity elsewhere, the Panthers have given permission to Marshall to seek a trade. His agent Vince Taylor has discussed the issue with the franchise and there are no hard feelings; Marshall will be welcomed back to the team if no deal is found.
This season, Marshall has caught only 16 passes for 114 yards. He shares playing time with DJ Chark, as the team is also looking to get 2023 second-round pick Jonathan Mingo more involved in the offense as well.
Unable to take advantage of the downfield ability that Marshall possesses, a change of scenery would likely be best for him. Landing with a team that can put his abilities to better use while providing a more consistent role is something the LSU product could certainly use.
