Use the Stable of Backs

The New England Patriots have become an effective run-first offense in the last couple of seasons, and it seems reasonable that they could continue to do so. With a quality running back in Sony Michel and an excellent pass catching running back in James White, the Patriots are in a great position to burn the Miami Dolphins with their backfield.

Cam Newton needs to explore his chemistry with the running backs, and this will include calling audibles that change a passing play to a running play. Tom Brady relied on the Patriots backfield in the 2019 NFL season, and there is no reason that Newton can’t do the same.

For Newton to put up big numbers in his debut with the New England Patriots, he needs to share the love, and that means running a balanced offense that includes some reliance on his running backs.

If the Patriots run game can get off to a quick start, Newton will have more opportunities to throw downfield and therefore leading to big numbers for Newton in week one of the NFL season.
