Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is in a great position to cash in this offseason. After signing one-year deals the last two years, a multi-year deal should be attainable as arguably the best player at his position hitting free agency.

JuJu Smith-Schuster had a very good season with the Kansas City Chiefs, punctuated by a solid performance in the Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. In that game he caught seven passes for 53 yards, coming up huge as Patrick Mahomes’ go-to receiver in the second half to get the lead.

It was a continuation of his strong performance in the regular season. JuJu Smith-Schuster caught 78 passes for 933 yards and three touchdowns. It was his most productive season since 2018, as he thrives as the No. 2 option in the passing game. With the Pittsburgh Steelers, he played behind Antonio Brown and with the Chiefs, it was tight end Travis Kelce leading the way.

Given the relative lack of depth at wide receiver this offseason, JuJu Smith-Schuster won’t lack for suitors. He has a lot working for him, as he can fit numerous schemes given his ability to line up in the slot or on the perimeter. In addition to that, he is an elite blocker in the run game at the wide receiver spot.

One team that would be considered a good fit for him is the New England Patriots. Bill Belichick and company need to add more weapons to the offense regardless of whether or not Mac Jones is the starter in 2023 and beyond.

With Jakobi Meyers entering free agency, the Patriots could be without their No. 1 receiver from the last two seasons. JuJu Smith-Schuster would be a solid replacement for him as he thrives playing out of the slot, which is where Meyers did most of his work.

In New England, JuJu Smith-Schuster’s willingness to do the dirty work in the run game and work the middle of the field would be an ideal fit for their offense. The Patriots lack that true No. 1 wide receiver, but JuJu Smith-Schuster would be seen as an upgrade regardless.
