Based on his recent activity on social media, it appears that Julian Edelman is showing his support for the New England Patriots’ decision to promote Jerod Mayo to the position of head coach, replacing Bill Belichick.
On a Friday morning, Edelman took to Instagram to share highlights from Mayo’s playing career, accompanying the video with a warm caption in honor of the Patriots’ newest head coach.
Edelman and Mayo were not only teammates but also shared the experience of winning a Super Bowl together during the 2014 season. Their bond extends from 2009 to 2015.
At 37 years old, Mayo now holds the distinction of being the youngest head coach in the NFL, previously held by Sean McVay for several seasons.
The Patriots’ faith in Mayo’s coaching abilities is evident, as they had already designated him as Bill Belichick’s successor during the previous offseason. In fact, they made contract adjustments to avoid the need for a traditional hiring process.
The formal introduction of Mayo as the head coach of the Patriots is anticipated in the near future, and only time will reveal whether he proves to be the ideal successor to the legendary Bill Belichick.
