When the New England Patriots signed free agent quarterback Cam Newton, they brought in a massive media storm. Fans and media members alike could not be more excited to watch Newton play this season. Now, he is even being viewed as a potential NFL MVP candidate for the 2020 season.

The latest odds at MGM have named Newton as tied for the No. 9 odds to win the prestigious award. He tied with Green Bay Packers superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.

Newton is currently viewed as the favorite to end up winning the Patriots’ starting job. Jarrett Stidham was expected to be the starter, but Bill Belichick is looking to win a Super Bowl still. Even without Tom Brady, New England is not ready to rebuild.

Last season with the Carolina Panthers, Newton ended up playing in just two games before going down with an injury. Back in 2018, however, he played 14 games and looked great despite suffering a shoulder injury.

During the 2018 season, Newton completed 67.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,395 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He also chipped in 488 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Those numbers show that Newton still has some good football left in him.

NFL Analysis Network’s own Christopher Gamble broke down why Newton instantly makes the Patriots a Super Bowl contender once again. Belichick is getting his wish to stay competitive without the superstar quarterback that has been tied to him for years.

It will be interesting to see what Newton has left for the Patriots. He is coming off of a foot injury and some don’t believe he will bounce back strong. Others think New England is exactly what Newton needed to get his career back on track.

Expect to see a ton of media coverage surrounding Cam Newton with the Patriots. New England made a great move with this addition, especially on a cheap one-year deal based heavily on incentives. Newton may not end up being a top-notch MVP candidate, but he should put together a solid year.
