Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts scored his 15th rushing touchdown of the season during his team’s win over the New York Giants on Christmas Day, setting an NFL record for the most rushing scores by a quarterback in a season.

The mark was previously held by Cam Newton, who punched in 14 rushing touchdowns with the Carolina Panthers during his rookie campaign back in 2011.

Hurts went 24-for-38 with 308 yards, a touchdown and an interception while carrying the ball eight times for 34 yards and a score in the Eagles’ 33-25 victory.

It wasn’t exactly an easy win for Philadelphia, which jumped out to a 20-3 lead at halftime but then had to hold off a furious second-half Giants rally to secure the victory.

New York scored 15 unanswered points in the third quarter to draw to within 20-18, which included an interception that cornerback Adoree Jackson returned for a touchdown.

The Eagles would then proceed to score 10 straight points of their own to go up 30-18 and would ultimately hold the Giants off, intercepting a Tyrod Taylor pass in the end zone to conclude the game.

Philly snapped a three-game losing streak with the triumph and also moved into sole possession of first place in the NFC East.

On the season overall, Hurts has thrown for 3,643 yards, 20 touchdowns and 13 picks while completing 65.5 percent of his passes. He has also rushed for 576 yards while averaging 3.9 yards per carry.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma, was selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He became the Birds’ full-time starting quarterback in 2021, registering 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions through the air. Then, last year, Jalen Hurts broke out, finishing with 22 touchdowns and six packs while also racking up 13 rushing scores. He finished second in MVP voting as a result, and, most importantly, he led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl appearance.

The Eagles are 11-4 and will battle the Arizona Cardinals next weekend. They will then see the Giants again—this time on the road—to wrap up the regular season.
