The Philadelphia Eagles could certainly use some depth in their secondary, and with the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline looming, they could make a move over the next five weeks.
Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation sees Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn as a potential target.
Trade rumors have already been swirling around Chinn, and Gowton notes that had the Eagles not selected quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, they would have taken Chinn.
Considering the Panthers are now 0-3 following their loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, moving Chinn ahead of the deadline would certainly make sense. He is in the final year of his contract, and Carolina surely would like to recoup some value for him before he walks in free agency.
Chinn, who played his collegiate football at Southern Illinois, was selected by the Panthers with the 64th overall pick of the 2020 draft.
He made quite an impression during his rookie campaign, racking up 117 tackles, a sack, an interception, two forced fumbles, a couple of fumble recoveries and a pair of defensive touchdowns. The following year, he posted 107 tackles, a sack, a pick, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in another solid season.
Injuries limited Chinn to just 11 games in 2022. Through three contests in 2023, the 25-year-old has logged 15 tackles.
Gowton notes that Chinn could play a safety/linebacker/slot cornerback hybrid role in the Eagles’ defense, especially against opposing tight ends.
Philadelphia is 2-0 entering its Week 3 Monday night matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Eagles are looking to make it back to the Super Bowl for the second straight year.
