Pittsburgh Steelers: 3 Keys to Victory in Week 2 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Bring Patrick Mahomes back down to earth

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was really impressive in his team’s 38-28 win against their division rival Los Angeles Chargers. Despite only completing 15 passes, four of those went for a touchdown. Every pass completion was a dagger to the Chargers’ defense. This impressive performance is sure to put Mahomes on cloud nine. It’ll be the Steelers duty to put him on his back, bringing him back down to earth.

The Chargers only got to Mahomes once for a sack, which isn’t gonna cut it. The Steelers need to get him uncomfortable. They need to get him panicking like a rookie. It’s not like he’s an experienced quarterback. He’s practically still a rookie right now. This pass rush has the players to press Mahomes, unlike the Chargers. Remember it all starts with Mahomes in order for Tyreek Hill to be ineffective.

Can this talented pass rush get to Mahomes? It’s definitely going to be a challenge because Mahomes isn’t a stationary quarterback.

He’ll use his legs if he has to like he did against the Chargers. Luckily for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they were already tested by a better mobile quarterback in Tyrod Taylor last week. They should be better suited to contain Mahomes. For this game, it’s crucial that they hit him and hit him hard. This is only Mahomes third game starting, so there is still a lot to find out about him. Punishing him on every drop back is one way to see how mentally strong he is.
