While Kenny Pickett has been presumed to take the helm as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback in the upcoming season, recent developments suggest the team is open to exploring other options, including potentially acquiring a seasoned quarterback through a trade.

In a recent interview with Bob Pompeani of KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II hinted at the possibility of bringing in a veteran quarterback to supplant Pickett, sending a clear message regarding the team’s stance on the quarterback position.

“Well, you know, as we sit here early February, we’re not closing the door on anything,” Rooney said according to Pro Football Talk. “We have a lot of evaluations to go through and we’ll go through all the options and do what we need to do to be better this coming season.”

Pickett initially held the starting quarterback position at the start of the season. However, a mid-season injury sidelined him, leading to Mason Rudolph assuming the starting role.

Despite Pickett’s eventual return to full health, Rudolph retained the starting position for the remainder of the season.

The Steelers have asserted that there will be a fair competition for the starting quarterback role in the upcoming season.

While Kenny Pickett was widely considered the frontrunner given the current quarterback lineup, the potential addition of a veteran quarterback could significantly alter the dynamics of this competition.
