Steelers’ Kwon Alexander Issues Warning About NFL Direction

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander is not happy with the current direction of the NFL.

In recent years, the league has taken significant measures to make the game safer for the players involved and has instructed referees to call a much tighter game regarding illegal hits, personal fouls and the like.

The shift has caused a stir and has created some controversy, as many fans (and players) feel that football is inherently a violent sport and there isn’t much you can do about it other than not playing it.

“They’re making it hard for us,” said Alexander, via Blitzburgh’s X account. “I don’t really know what the game is coming to, for real. I don’t know how to stop from tackling someone around the waist. I give it about three or four years and I think they’re going to go to flag. How else are you going to tackle?”

Alexander is echoing the sentiments of many, and the lack of consistency with how officials make certain calls has also made life much more difficult for defensive players.

Unfortunately for Alexander and those who may disagree with the NFL’s trajectory, things probably aren’t going to change anytime soon. If anything, things have gotten even stricter over the last couple of seasons, and it’s hard to imagine the pendulum swinging back the other way.

Alexander is in his first season with the Steelers after bouncing around between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and New York Jets over the first eight years of his NFL career.

Early on in Kwon Alexander’s professional tenure, he appeared to be ascending into the upper echelon of NFL linebackers, but injuries derailed him.

Through five games this season, the 29-year-old has logged 36 tackles and a sack.

Pittsburgh is 4-2 and is fresh off of defeating the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon.
