Major transformations are on the horizon for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback lineup, with the initial shift occurring on Monday.
Reports from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network confirm that the Steelers and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky have decided to part ways by mutual agreement.
Despite having two years remaining on his contract, Trubisky will now explore free agency opportunities to continue his career with a new team.
Trubisky’s departure comes as no surprise, given his limited prospects of securing the starting position in Pittsburgh, especially with a salary of $5.25 million slated for 2024.
His role within the team became increasingly uncertain, particularly after losing out to Kenny Pickett for the starting spot and struggling to reclaim it, even during Pickett’s absence due to injury.
Once viewed as a potential starting contender, Trubisky’s tenure with the Steelers took an unexpected turn. Despite the organization’s initial confidence in him, evidenced by a contract extension just a year prior, circumstances rapidly evolved.
Now, as the Steelers actively seek a seasoned quarterback to challenge Pickett, Trubisky finds himself on the outside looking in, amidst this transitional phase.
