The Denver Broncos are one of the teams who are going to be hopping on the quarterback carousel during the 2024 NFL offseason. They made their intentions clear when they opted to bench Russell Wilson late in the 2023 regular season.

Despite still having an outside chance at earning a playoff spot, the Broncos benched Wilson and replaced him with backup Jarrett Stidham. It was a move head coach Sean Payton and the team had been threatening to make for months as they wanted to avoid any more money being guaranteed on Wilson’s contract.

That money was guaranteed for injury only, and the best way, in the franchise’s opinion to make sure that didn’t happen, was benching him. At some point in the coming weeks, Wilson will be released and free to find a new team, putting an end to what was a tumultuous two-year stint.

The trade the Broncos made with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire Wilson is going to go down as one of the worst in NFL history. What Denver surrendered assets-wise on top of the quarter-billion dollar extension was astronomical for 30 games of underwhelming production.

While Stidham is confident that he can win the starting quarterback job, the Broncos’ starter likely isn’t on the roster yet. Who could the team look to bring in? If they go the draft route, Trevor Sikkema of PFF believes that Bo Nix out of Oregon is the perfect prospect for them.

With Russell Wilson now on the bench and on his way out of Denver, the Broncos need a new quarterback. The problem is, I can’t in all good conscience put Caleb Williams or Drake Maye here knowing how much it would take to move up that high in the draft. If they stay in the middle of the first round, where they are projected to pick, Nix would be an ideal option. Nix has legit NFL arm strength in both distance and velocity, as well as added mobility with his legs. He’s also the most experienced college quarterback of all time with 60 games as a starter. He and Sean Payton could work well together,” wrote Sikkema.

Payton has made it clear that he is looking for a specific kind if player to run the offense as he sees fit. Nix, by all accounts, would be a great fit in that regard and is the kind if quarterback Payton is seeking.

Nix was extremely productive in his college career, which started at Auburn before playing two seasons for the Ducks. In 60 games, he completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 15,352 and 113 touchdowns and only 26 interceptions.

His numbers with Oregon were truly off the charts as he completed 74.9 percent of his passes for 8,101 yards with 74 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions. Nix is a capable runners as well, gaining 1,613 yards on the ground with 38 more scores.

That kind of dynamic playmaker is exactly what the Broncos could use at quarterback moving forward. With the No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Denver may not be in position for the top signal callers in this year’s draft, but Nix should be on the board unless he blows scouts away during the pre-draft process and moves up the ranks.
