QB Drake Maye Named Perfect Draft Prospect For 2 Teams

Drake Maye, Giants, Patriots, NFL Draft

One of the most sought-after players in the 2024 NFL Draft is North Carolina quarterback, Drake Maye. He, along with Caleb Williams, are almost unanimously believed to be the top two quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class, one that is loaded with first-round talent at the position.

It is hard to argue with that, as Drake Maye possesses everything you would want in a franchise quarterback. He has a huge arm, capable of making all of the throws on the field. The athleticism is there as well, as he has drawn some comparisons to Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills.

Whichever team has the chance to select Maye could fill their quarterback void for years to come as he has franchise quarterback upside. Which teams could be fit on? In the opinion of Trevor Sikkema of PFF, one team he would be the perfect prospect for is the New England Patriots.

NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Drake Maye, New England Patriots, New York Giants, 2024 NFL Draft Updates

“This one is pretty simple. Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones are not the long-term answers in New England. Maye could be. Flip a coin between him and Caleb Williams — since we don’t really have a “fit” to help decide between them with speculations of a new coaching staff,” wrote Sikkema.

A lot of change is happening in New England this offseason. Bill Belichick was removed as head coach and replaced by his defensive coordinator, Jerod Mayo. His staff is still coming together, but one thing is clear; their 2024 starting quarterback likely isn’t on the roster.

Regardless of the direction the offense is taking, Drake Maye would be a great fit. The Patriots would need to add some weapons around him, but he would provide the franchise with their best chance at replacing Tom Brady to this point.

With the No. 3 pick, the Patriots could have to do some wheeling and dealing to land Drake Maye. Whether the Chicago Bears keep or trade the No. 1 pick, a quarterback will be selected. The Washington Commanders, at No. 2, will also be looking at a quarterback.

One of the teams who could jump the Patriots in the order is the New York Giants. Currently in the No. 6 spot, they could have their hand forced and need to make a trade to select their quarterback of the future. Sikkema believes that Drake Maye is the perfect prospect for them as well.

NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Drake Maye, New England Patriots, New York Giants, 2024 NFL Draft Updates

“For as bad as it looked with Daniel Jones to start this season, if the Giants have a chance to draft Drake Maye, I’d do it. Maye had by far the most big-time throws of any quarterback in the FBS over the last two seasons and would be the perfect new investment for Brian Daboll’s offense,” Sikkema wrote.

We have seen Brian Daboll and his offensive staff make the most of a limited group on offense. He coaxed a productive season out of Daniel Jones, which resulted in a playoff victory, and wins this season out of undrafted rookie free agent Tommy DeVito.

Neither of those players has the skill set and upside of Drake Maye. Imagine what Daboll could do with a player of his caliber. It is time to get him his quarterback after he and Joe Schoen inherited and incorrectly handed Jones a long-term deal with an out after the 2024 season.
