Raiders likely to pursue Jadeveon Clowney in free agency

The Las Vegas Raiders are a team that could be looking to make major moves this offseason. Jon Gruden and company are looking to get back into the playoffs and were a competitive football team in 2020. Now, as they look to improve their roster, it appears likely that they will pursue free agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney is coming off of a disappointing season himself with the Tennessee Titans. He struggled with injuries and was only able to play in eight games. That could have hurt his market value, which would make the Raiders even more likely to pursue him.

According to one NFL scout, who asked to remain anonymous, Clowney will be a target for the Raiders this offseason.

“There aren’t many teams in the league who need to improve their pass-rush more than the Raiders. They are going to look into a lot of options. One of them will be Jadeveon Clowney, who will be one of their top targets in free agency.”

In the eight games he was able to play with the Titans, Clowney ended up with 19 total tackles to go along with a forced fumble and four defended passes. He was unable to record a single sack. That will add extra motivation for him to come back strong in 2021.

Jadeveon Clowney is still one of the most talented edge rushers in the game. His physical ability to nearly unmatched. If he can stay healthy, he can make a major impact for a team like the Raiders.

Back in 2019 with the Seattle Seahawks after being traded by the Houston Texans, Clowney played in 13 games and made a major impact. He racked up 31 total tackles, three sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception, a defensive touchdown, and three defended passes.

Looking at the potential market for Clowney, there are a lot of teams that could compete to sign him. The Titans would likely bring him back at the right price, the Dallas Cowboys could have interest, the New Orleans Saints could try to sign him, and there are a handful of other teams as well.

If the Raiders want to bring him in, they will have to make an aggressive offer. Clowney would be worth a two or three-year deal worth a decent amount of money. Las Vegas should be careful not to overpay, but they should be aggressive.

Expect to see an aggressive offseason from the Raiders. They know they are close to being a playoff team and adding a talent like Clowney could be the move that pushes them into the postseason.
