The Baltimore Ravens signed running back Dalvin Cook last week, and head coach John Harbaugh sees Cook as more than just some extra depth.

“We view him as potentially a very valuable weapon for our offense,” Harbaugh said, via Sarah Ellison of Ravens Vault. “Dalvin Cook is a high pedigree player, a highly decorated player. He’s still got talent, ability. He’s smart. He’s in great football shape. He looked very good in practice today. So I think he’s going to be a very valuable part of our team in the playoffs.”

Cook began the season with the New York Jets, but was released by the team earlier this month after a very unproductive run with the club. In 15 games, Cook carried the ball 67 times for just 214 yards, good for a meager 3.2 yards per carry. He also logged just 15 catches for 78 yards..

He didn’t score a single touchdown with the Jets.

New York had initially signed Cook to a one-year deal last August with the expectation that he would represent a crucial part of the team’s offense in 2023.

Obviously, that did not happen.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Florida State, was originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He spent the first six years of his career with the Vikings, making four straight trips to the Pro Bowl between 2019 and 2022.

Minnesota released Cook last offseason in order to save some money.

We’ll see if John Harbaugh finds a role for Dalvin Cook in the playoffs. Baltimore finished with the best record in the league, so it notched itself a first-round bye.
