Ravens Named Possible Destination For Free Agent Kareem Hunt

The Baltimore Ravens need to figure out their quarterback situation. Either they will work out a long-term deal with Lamar Jackson, or they will trade him to a team that signs him to an offer sheet this offseason. But, regardless of how things shake out there, this is a team that needs more weapons offensively.

There isn’t a team in the NFL that has put fewer resources toward the wide receiver position than Baltimore in recent seasons. Imagine what kind of success Jackson could have had if the team put more emphasis on upgrading the pass-catching talent around him.

If the Ravens aren’t going to upgrade the wide receiver position, another area on their offense that could use some bolstering is the running back spot. Baltimore has had some bad luck when it comes to injuries at the position, which caused them to dig deep into their depth chart in recent seasons.

One player who could become a target for them eventually is veteran Kareem Hunt. The Ravens are familiar with Hunt as he spent the last four seasons playing with their AFC North rivals, the Cleveland Browns. He was one of the better change-of-pace backs in the league behind Nick Chubb but struggled during the 2022 season.

Hunt requested a trade from the Browns, but that request was denied. His performance certainly didn’t help his case to get dealt as he averaged a career-low 3.8 yards per carry and 12.4 receiving yards per game.

That lack of production likely is playing a part in Hunt’s market being ice cold thus far this offseason. He hasn’t been connected to any teams, which could make this an excellent buy-low opportunity for a team such as the Ravens.

Already with J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards on the roster, Hunt would be joining a crowded backfield. However, at this point in the offseason and with teams gearing up for the 2023 NFL Draft, most backfields are going to be crowded.

Hunt would provide the team with an excellent insurance policy in the backfield, something they certainly have needed in recent seasons. His dual-threat skill set would play well in Baltimore, as he has proven in the past he is capable of handling a three-down role if need be.

The Ravens wouldn’t need him for an every-down role unless injuries occurred, but he would provide the team with someone that can be plugged into the lineup in any role. Whether it is on early downs between the tackles or on third down as a pass protector, Hunt is the complete package as an all-around running back.
