The Denver Broncos, who are 3-5 on the season, are one team that many people expected to be sellers ahead of the 2023 NFL Trade Deadline. But, the deadline came and went without the team making any deals.
The victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9 could have led to their plans changing. At 3-5, it is much easier to convince yourselves you have a shot to make a run at a playoff spot than at 2-6.
One of the players who was heavily involved in trade rumors recently was wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. Some reports said the Broncos were expected to move on from the 2020 first-round pick, but those reports ended up not coming to fruition.
It certainly wasn’t from a lack of interest. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN during an appearance on 104.3 The Fan in Denver, discussions were had between Denver and a few other teams. Ultimately, they opted to hold onto Jeudy because they didn’t receive the kind of offers they were looking for.
“Jerry Jeudy got calls from two different teams, but Denver wasn’t going to give him up unless they got back a significant return,” Schefter said.
Schefter was asked by The Fan’s Mark Schlereth what the offer was for Jeudy and he said, “I believe they got offered a three (third-round pick) and a five (fifth-round pick).” (H/T Heavy)
Mike Klis of 9News piggybacked off that report, saying he had heard about them. But, from what he heard, that was the asking price that the Broncos had set as they were seeking the equivalent of a second-round pick in exchange for their young wide receiver.
In Klis’s opinion, had the Broncos been offered a package of a third and fifth-round pick, they would have accepted it. The $13 million fifth-year option Jeudy will be playing under next season would have been a determining factor to make a move as well.
